Accessibility

Our commitment
GRN (Global Research Network) should be usable by everyone, including people who rely on a screen reader, keyboard, magnification, or reduced motion. We build toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, which is also the basis of the Israeli accessibility standard for websites (IS 5568). We are a small team and this is ongoing work, so this page says plainly what is done and what is not.
What is in place
Pages use real headings, landmarks, lists, and labelled form fields, so screen readers can navigate them by structure. Every control can be reached and operated with the keyboard, and the focused element is visibly outlined.
Text and background colours were chosen for WCAG AA contrast, including the orange used for links and buttons on the cream background. Text can be resized and the layout reflows on narrow screens without horizontal scrolling.
Motion respects your system setting. If "reduce motion" is on, the turning globe on the home page stands still and the groups map skips its entrance animation.
Logos and images uploaded by groups carry the group name as their text alternative. Form errors are shown as text next to the field, not only as a colour change.
Known limitations
The 3D globe on the Globe page is drawn with WebGL and is not fully operable by keyboard or screen reader. Everything it shows is also available as text: groups on the Groups page, and events, positions, and grants on the Search page.
The Groups page lays groups out as a visual map. A screen reader announces every group as a button in reading order and can open its details, but the visual grouping by field is not conveyed in words. On screens narrower than 640 pixels the same content is shown as a plain list.
Some listings (grants, positions, events) are copied from external sources and may contain text that was not written with accessibility in mind, such as capitalised titles or missing dates.
Third-party sign-in with Google is provided by Google and follows their accessibility practices, not ours.
